On Sunday night, May 16, unidentified gunmen attempted to set fire to the Enugu headquarters of the Independent National Elections Commission (INEC), but were met with heavy resistance by the Joint Security Forces, who were quickly mobilized to the scene, according to IgbereTV reports.

A statement from ASP Daniel Ndukwe, State Police Command spokesperson, said that state fire service personnel, who promptly responded to calls to them, helped extinguish the flames that were already lit in four (4) vehicles and two (2) pillows inside the buildings. the desk.

He said that the state police commissioner, CP Mehmet Ndatsu Aliyu, who immediately rushed to the scene along with the heads of other security services in the state, ordered that adequate security be placed inside the office campus and the launch of a full police station. Ndukwi also stated that the police chief had asked law-abiding citizens in the state to remain vigilant and to volunteer immediately with useful information that would assist the police in the investigation.
