Eight passengers were killed when a truck fell off a bridge in Osun

Eight people were confirmed killed in a truck accident on Nov. 27 on the Interchange Bridge in Osugbo, Osun state, on Saturday morning.

The fatal accident occurred at about 1:20 am Saturday.

The Daily Post compiled that a Volvo FL7 truck with registration number KMC 35 ZJ was climbing over the bridge when the driver lost control, likely due to overloading.

The truck, which was transporting palm oil and cola nuts to the north, had 61 passengers and the driver on board.

The commander of the Osun State Division of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kudirat Ibrahim, who was at the site of the accident, said that the injured passengers were taken to Osun Teaching Hospital and Asubisro  General Hospital in Osogbo.

"The car, which was heavily loaded with jerry cans of palm oil and more than 60 passengers, was trying to go up the slope but started to retreat and lost control. It fell sideways into the side drain, dumped water containers above the passengers and killed some in the process," she said.

She added that the dead were taken to the morgue.
