Security operatives foil jailbreak in Kano
An attempt to break the prison by inmates of Kurmawa Prison, located around the Amir Palace in Kano State, was stopped by security officers on Thursday evening, April 22nd.
Witnesses said gunshots were heard from time to time as residents prepared to break the fast.
Musbahu Nasarawa, a spokeswoman for Nigeria’s penitentiary service in Kano, confirmed the incident, saying the riot had been suppressed by the concerted efforts of prison officials.
Nasarawa, who has denied allegations that the crisis was a lack of food or poor quality food for detainees, said the violence at the correctional facility occurred after inmates tried to take illegal items found with some detainees. .
